The Fifth String and Co. is located in Gold Hill, NC (USA). The quaint picturesque village was once the gold mining capitol of North Carolina. The historic setting is the perfect place for the Fifth String and Co. The business caters to the acoustic musician, targeting those in the bluegrass music industry. We have enjoyed bringing music supplies and instruments to our customers at some of the best bluegrass festivals all over the Carolinas and the southeast. Although we do not travel as extensively as we had in the past, we still enjoy dealing with our customers on the road and at home in Gold Hill,NC.
We have always enjoyed the festivals, but today we also enjoy the quiet life and the standing room only fun of our Friday nights at the 'Montgomery'.
We're located in the heart of the 19th century gold mining village of Gold Hill, NC.
The 'E.H. Montgomery General Store', home of The Fifth String and Co., has always been a favorite meeting place for the community. The photo on the left was taken on an Easter Sunday around 1900. The store was built around 1840 and was a main supplier of feed, grain, and mining supplies, as well as household staples like sugar, flour. Still today, folks enjoy meeting at the Montgomery. We opened at the E.H. Montgomery five years ago and the folks who visit weekly are just like family.
