In a living room on Burke Street in the small town of Gibsonville, N.C., the original configuration of Hwy 61 Bluegrass Band came to be. Six novice musicians with varied backgrounds in music brought what each of them could to the bluegrass sound. A love for acoustic music and the friendships that have grown out of pickin' together has kept the group playing, growing, changing and making music in this wonderful American art creation. The band enjoys playing traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel tunes. Hwy 61 Bluegrass Band is named after the highway that runs by the District 28 Fire Department in Gibsonville where most of the original members of the band gathered for jam sessions on Wednesday nights prior to forming the band.
